PisayMUN IV, themed “Building Cities, Creating Opportunities, and Offering Smart Solutions,” was hosted by the Philippine Science High School — Main Campus (PSHS–MC) last November 18–22 at the Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City.

This year’s PisayMUN is the fourth iteration of the week-long Philippine Science High School System Model United Nations (MUN) conference, a simulation of the United Nations committees held every two years gathering delegates from all 16 Pisay campuses to solve real-world problems through diplomacy, debate, and policy making.

PSHS–MC delegates Grandis Frias of Batch 2026 and Nathaniel Logan Gregorio of Batch 2030 bagged awards for Best Presenter for their respective committees.

Other PSHS–MC representatives included Franchezca Lara Sabino of Batch 2026, Megan Rain Nidea of Batch 2029, and Joachim Zerj Eleria and Reugene Dwane Lopez of Batch 2027.

Marinela Dyan Tiu of Batch 2025, the secretary-general of the PSHS–MC MUN club, served as one of the main organizers of PisayMUN IV as its deputy secretary-general.

The PisayMUN IV committees included the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Junior delegates composed of Grades 7 and 8 students represented fictional characters instead of existing nations as members of the Animated Commission on Smart Cities (ACSC). The ACSC, set in 2805, aimed to rebuild and repopulate a fictional ravaged planet.

Meanwhile, PisayMUN IV kicked off with the opening ceremony held last November 19, where opening messages were given by PSHS–MC Office of the Campus Director Officer-in-Charge Dr. Rod Allan De Lara, Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary Maridon Sahagun, and Philippine Science High School System Executive Director Dr. Ronnalee Orteza.

In the following days, the five committees engaged in public speaking, debate, policy writing, and diplomatic collaboration as delegates were tasked to write and pass two resolutions per committee that would address the given problems.

PisayMUN IV culminated at the closing ceremony held last November 22.

Dr. Rosalind Wee, a scientist and social activist, gave an inspirational speech based on her background as an academic and her work as an actress and businesswoman. She encouraged the scholars in the audience to use their science education for good.

She also highlighted her advocacies on ending violence against women, volunteering in women’s shelters, and promoting blood donation, emphasizing the importance of such causes.

Dr. Wee also praised the quality and impact of the delegates’ work on international relations, following the resolution presentations of all committees.

“You have to compile all of [your works] and send them to the General Assembly of the United Nations because you are doing very well,” she remarked to the audience of delegates.

Finally, Dr. Wee shared to the delegates the lessons she passed down to her children, highlighting the importance of MUN beyond winning awards.

“When you fail, you get up. You get up and do it again.”
