Students from Batches 2025 and 2027 of Philippine Science High School — Main Campus (PSHS–MC) cast their votes in a mock election conducted on campus last Wednesday, February 19.

The event, hosted to simulate the upcoming 2025 Philippine midterm elections, was organized by Project Elekdukasyon, an educational program implemented by students of Block 12-F for their Social Science 6 project, in collaboration with Aksyon Iskolar (AKSIS), the school’s social action club.

Voters visited mock-up voting precincts in Science and Humanities Building classrooms to record their votes online via Google Forms, which listed the official senatorial candidates and party-lists running in the upcoming elections.

They then had their votes validated by station volunteers by signing for attendance and, in some stations, having food coloring dropped on one finger, similar to the indelible ink used in actual elections.

“It is very important to hold an election simulation like this because we are [able to introduce] students to how voting and democracy works,” said Sir Charles Joseph De Guzman of the Social Science Unit, who oversaw the event as the AKSIS adviser.

B2027 voter Chariz Cruz shared that she voted mainly based on name recognition and the candidates’ platforms if she knew of any.

“When I chose a candidate, the first thing I went for was if I was familiar with the name, and had a platform I knew I agreed with.”

Cruz added: “Prior to these elections, I wasn’t really informed on all the candidates; so in truth, I’m not really confident in my decisions.”

Meanwhile, some of the organizers had no prior experience of conducting events with a fairly large audience, according to Project Elekdukasyon member Reene Castillo.

“Many of us are handling events of this scale for the first time, so we had a bit of difficulty in setting up and organizing the event,” Castillo shared.

Project Elekdukasyon also disseminated on February 21 the online voting form to B2026, who were not included in the simulation, as well as to B2025 students who were unable to attend. It will be open until February 23, 2025.

The mock election results are slated to be released within the month, via the official social media accounts of The Science Scholar, and Ang Lagablab, PSHS–MC’s official Filipino student publication, as per Project Elekdukasyon.

The actual national midterm elections will be held on May 12, 2025.
